From everything you've said, it seems that these are the facts:
- at the original location the problem PC can't connect to the DC, but your
laptop can
- from the shop, the problem PC can connect to the DC
As I'm sure you've guessed, this is either a hardware problem, a switch or
router problem or, a DNS problem.
Since your laptop works at the original location, it seems like a DNS
problem with the problem PC. At least that's my guess. You never said if
the problem PC could ping by both host name and IP address at the original
location. Does it?
If it can't ping by host name, can it ping either it's primary or secondary
DNS server?

John,
The problem pc can ping the DC's by host name andd ip from our
shop. it cannot at it's orginal location. my laptop can ping from
both locations (using the problem pc's network drop at the original
location) It does appear to me to be a DNS issue but when it works
fine from our shop, I start looking at a possible switch issue...
but when my laptop connects... oooyyyy!!! I had some time and
did a fresh install TWICE on this computer just to see what would
happen (re-naming to something different and removing the old name
from AD).. Same results. THis is a lab so there are other pc's
connected to this same switch that are not having any problems
connecting to our domain. I obviously moved to different ports on
the switch with the same results.. Not really sure if it is hardware
related because.... it connects from our shop.
I'm pretty much stumped at this point.
1) What is ipconfig /all from your laptop when it successfully accesses
network from the office location?
2) When suspect PC fails to ping using IP address, does it time out or show
"destination host unreachable"? If the latter try a route print.
