Re: Cisco ?

I need to answer my own question.

1. To be able to pass traffic between VLAN's I need a router or a switch
with level 3 capability.
2. Most AP's including Cisco will not handle different types of encryption
on different VLAN"s. You can have different VLAN's but they all must use the
same kind of encryption.

Back to the drawing board.

This is not a "usual" VLAN question so let me explain.

I have a Win2003 domain connected thru a 2950 switch.
Attached to the switch is a Cisco AP.
When I started the only VLAN was the usual native VLAN 1

I have two different types of wireless stations. One older type can only
use WEP and the other for more sensitive traffic uses WPA. I want the
traffic for these separated. I plan to use VLAN 10 for the WPA stations
and VLAN 20 for the WEP stations. I don't want the vlan configuration to
effect the traffic on my domain network.

I set up an OU for the WPA stations with group policy using WPA and PEAP.
It worked fine with no VLAN's configured. I then configured the wireless
SSID for the WPA stations to use VLAN 10. I also configured the port to
the AP to use "trunk" routing. With this configuration the wireless
station will connect with the IAS server and is allowed access to the
network. Problem: there is no access beyond the IAS server.

I configured other ports also as "trunk" but it did not help. There
probably something I am missing on the 2950 switch and maybe someone in
this group has had a similar expereince that knows the anwer.

I will also check the reference you sent. Thanks

This is Cisco question. Basically, you should configure Cisco switch to

I need to learn how to use VLAN's with my Cisco 1242 wireless AP.

My switch is a Cisco 2950.

So far my wireless station will connect to the IAS server but no
further. I think I need some help with my switch and maybe my AP
configuration. My network is a Win2003 with Vista Business and Win XP.

Is this the place to ask this question which is more about Cisco than
MS? Or should I go somewhere else?
