To access sharing files you need to open some ports. When you used DSL, it didn't block those ports. It is recommended to setup VPN and access the remote resource. If you do want to access the sharing over internet, this search result may help.

I have a Win 2003 server at my office with a shared drive. I sometimes work
at home with XP. I had been able to connect to the shared drive from home by
using its IP address, e.g. \\111.22.33.44.
I just changed my home internet provider from DSL to cable. I've
reconfigured my server firewall for the new remote IP address range.
Everything works fine and I can connect to my server through ftp, http, etc.
but I can no longer connect to the server's shared drive. I'm not sure what
I have to configure. The server doesn't have a VPN setup so I don't think
any major configuration is necessary. But I'm missing a step and I can't
figure out what it is. Any ideas?
If there a different forum I should be posting to, please let me know.
Thanks,
Brian
