Re: remotely configure SNMP on Windows 2003

Hello,

the 4. can be done through GPO

You may use process monitor to capture registry changes when you do it from the services.msc tab.

Looks strange that you go this way for this numbers of servers. I would expect SCOM or things like this to manage this number of server, instead of just SNMP.

I have about 1000 servers I need to configure the community on SNMP. In
stead of logging into each server and manually making the change I tried to
change it via GPO. But there are only 3 fields in GPO but it's not granular
enough.
I need to modify:
1. the public community
2. Trap destinations (can be done via gpo)
3. Under security, accepted community names with read/write ability (can
only get read from gpo)
4. Accept SNMP packets from these hosts (default is localhost i want to
change that to an IP address)

I also tried configuring a server and exporting the SNMP registry keys but
even that doesn't configure everything when I import it to a new machine.

I've also looked for 3rd party utils but haven't found much for the wild
world of windows.

Thanks,
Dave
