I found a newer NIC driver on the Intel web site and installed it this
past weekend, Mathieu. The server came up OK from a restart after the
install. So, I'm hoping the newer driver fixed the "lost NIC" issue.
Thanks!

Thanks for your post, Mathieu. I can't say if the issue happened
before SP2 or not as the machine was built up (in April 2007) from SP1
media and then SP2 was installed immediately during the build up
process. Then, after all media was installed, including M/B drivers
from the provided Intel driver CD, Windows Update was run and all
updates presented were installed. Windows Update has been run monthly
since, installing all presented updates.
As I recall, I noted that the NIC did not "come up" at least once
during the initial system build. At the time, I just took the issue
as an anomaly as it came up after a power down. However, on Saturday,
after the restart from the monthly Windows Update, the NIC did not
come up again. Only when I did a shutdown and restart did the NIC
come up. I tried restart several times and the issue was consistent.
The NIC would come up only from a restart after a power down
condition.
I do not know if the NIC driver is the latest. I will check Intel's
web site for such.
