Hi,
See previous post about backup and moving files. The files would not
have been deliberately deleted, unless is was by the user themselves,
as the four folders involved belong to 4 different users, and no one
else has access to them.
Then inadvertently deleted. As I said, this cannot happen magically on its
own.
VSS is not installed on the servers. We are an educational/charity
establishment and have to work to a very tight budget. Now that this
has happened we will probably get some funding to buy some more disk
space for VSS, although as the folders may not have been accesses for
a year, see previous post, VSS may not help in this case.
No, the horses are gone. But you might still get a lock for the barn door.
Disks are cheap nowadays.

Missing folders on network share
I have some users saying that folders are missing from a shared area
on the network (Windows server 2003). I have a number of undelete
and rescue applications, but nothing is showing as deleted. I have
searched in case the folders have been moved without success. Any
ideas?
Dollars to donuts, someone has inadvertently or deliberately deleted
or dragged/moved stuff. This doesn't happen on its own!
Since you have W2003, you should be running volume shadow copy
services....if you aren't, or if it's been too long since the damage
was done, you'll need to go back to tape. VSS is a lifesaver, and if
it isn't enabled now, do it!
