I have a server which I just reloaded with Server 2003 (Standard).
Whenever
I apply SP1 or SP2 I loose all network connections.
After a little bit of research I have found that several services get
stuck
in the starting mode. These include netman, Com+, and ShellHWDDetection.
Also within any Service properties when I click on Dependecies I get an
error
message indicating Win32 Access is denied.
I am certain this is not a hardware or driver issue as I have this same
hardware (four other boxes) running Server 2003 w/SP2. The server is fine
until the SP is installed.
I reloaded this server for this issue as it was running an old version of
MS
Software Update Services (SUS) and I wanted to upgrade to the latest
version
(WSUS). The latest version requires SP1 minimum to install.
I am stuck on how to proceed with this problem, any advice?
I was having this identical issue with one of my servers.
After a long time of trying different configurations and attempted
slipstream upgrades, I eventually did a clean install with a slipstream disc
with SP2 and then started install drivers one by one with a restart after
each one to try and narrow down my problem.
Turns out it was the video driver that was giving me all my networking
grief. For reference it was an ATI ES1000 video chipset.
