Re: Trouble adding pc to domain

Hi Zach,

Here are a few things you could try on that workstation...

Is there a host file on this PC with incorrect settings?
Try a commandline ipconfig /dnsflush and then ipconfig /registerdns
You could also try a commandline netsh int ip reset c:\resetloglog.txt
which would reset your ip stack.
Try running an anti-spyware program (such as adaware) to see if some program
has hijacked your dns.
Try replacing the network card with one you know to work.

The other computers are connected via the same router. I have an mpls
network from several sites with one hub location. The computer I am having
troubles with is at the first location I am bringing online. I have 7
other computers on the same router that connect with no problem. Another
thing I just noticed in doing some more testing is that this problem
computer will not resolve host names either. I have double and triple
checked the TCP/IP settings to make sure they are correct and when I ping
the servername it says ping request could not find hostname.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Hi Zach,

The other computers which can log into the domain that you mentioned, are
they in the same location and connected through the router as this
computer you are having issues with? If not, how does this computer
usually connect to your network? vpn?

I am having problems getting a pc to add to the domain. This pc is
connected to a router in another location. Other computers can log into
the domain and I added one to the domain. This is the only pc that won't
join the domain. When I try I get the following error:

Note: This information is intended for a network administrator. If you
are not your network's administrator, notify the administrator that you
received this information, which has been recorded in the file
C:\WINDOWS\debug\dcdiag.txt.

DNS was successfully queried for the service location (SRV) resource
record used to locate a domain controller for domain mair.lunken:

The query was for the SRV record for _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs.mair.lunken

The following domain controllers were identified by the query:

fs01.mair.lunken

Common causes of this error include:

- Host (A) records that map the name of the domain controller to its IP
addresses are missing or contain incorrect addresses.

- Domain controllers registered in DNS are not connected to the network
or are not running.

For information about correcting this problem, click Help.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
ZS
