How to select network protocol

This is all black magic to me, so if my problem statement doesn't make sense
please try to set me straight...
We have a 3rd party NFS client (Hummingbird NFS Maestro) installed on our
Windows XP Pro computers. On the other end of the wire is a Sun box running
Samba. So my Windows box can talk both SMB and NFS, as can the Sun box.
Is there some way that I can force Windows to use one protocol rather than
the other? The specific problem that we have is that the Sun box is hosting
ClearCase, and nasty things happen when you try to talk to ClearCase using
SMB, so we want to force the Windows box to use NFS. If we turn off Samba
on the Sun box (which we can't do on the production server) then Windows and
ClearCase are perfectly happy with one another. But as soon as we turn on
Samba then we start seeing the ClearCase problems.
(I guess the flip side of this question would be better addressed to
Rational/IBM or a Sun newsgroup: Is there some way to convince ClearCase on
the Sun server to favor NFS over Samba?)
TIA - Bob
