Re: Win2003 Server in a Workgroup - user assignment access

The problem is an XP machine getting access to the Win2003 shared
folders. Setting the security policy on the XP machines won't have an
effect on accessing the Win2003 server ?

I can't understand why the settings on the Win2003 server ("Access this
computer from the network") keep clearing themselves?

Cheers,
Tis me

Hello All, I have been reading

- and have followed the steps as I am in the same situation. When
assigning users or groups to "Access this Computer from the network"
in "gpedit.msc", I can assign them and they stay in the field for a
little while (around 5 mins) and I can connect to the shared folders
through an XP machine during this period, however the assignments
that I make in this field dissappear or are removed automatically for
some reason. Once they are removed automatically I can gain access to
the server shares.

How can I make these changes in the "Access this computer from the
network" permanant ?

Thank you for your help.

Kind Regards,
Tis me

If all machines are in a workgroup, manually set their Local Sec Policy
(thru Control Panel, Admin Tools), or Local Group Policy (by accessing it
thru start/run, type in gpedit.msc). If in a domain, configure a GPO with
the settings.
