Re: computer missing from network

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

That is pretty much what I would expect. That sort of thing usually
works using Netbios names and the computer browser service, which rely on
LAN broadcasts. The VPN client is not on the LAN so the machines on the LAN
don't know about it. (Broadcasts usually don't cross routers or WAN links).

If you have WINS running, setting up the VPN client as a WINS client
might do it for you.

I have a user who is connected to our 2000 server through a VPN.

I have setup a shared printer on his machine and I am trying to
connect to his computer from the server so when he is loged on to the
server he can print to his printer.

When I do a search for his computers IP address from the server it
can not find the workstation.

I can ping the workstation from the server and I can also remote
desktop to it using the IP address but can not find it to connect to
the printer.

I have also tried adding the printer using the add new printer wizard
with the same result in that it can not find the computer.

Can anyone offer any suggestions.

Thanks
