Re: What is the benefit of using Workgroup ?

Dear Ace,

We do and I believe the Network Administrator is making the change step by
step but he doesn't tell us about his plan.

Robert

Robert <Robert@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> stated, which I commented on
below:
Dear Ace,

Thank you for your advice.

I totally agree with your saying that it is easier to identify the
location of the workstations. However, it means that we have to set
up more Ghost images as it requires us to create one for each site
(Unless we have to change the workgroup manually).

Besides, he suggests us to use Windows XP workstation as Print Server
at those sites (Because we have problem with Novell printing). I
would like to know what will be the consequence if that XP
workstation out of order ? It seems that all users will not be able
to print to network printers ?
Thanks
Rob

It would be just like a server being out of order. They won't be able to
print.

As for Ghost images, changing the workgroup name is minor. You can also
use sysprep with different unattend settings. It's really not that
difficult, just a little testing on your part.

How to Use Sysprep An Introduction:

Curious, are there any plans in place to migrate to Active Directory? Much
of what you're asking, besides Sysprep, between this post and your other
one, are easier to do and control under Active Directory.
