Robert,
Many thanks for your useful information and I will make a try later.
I have an query in my mind and seeking your further advice. Even the
file can be shared between Windows and Mac OSs the file format should
be different. I notice the .xxx name is different in most cases in
Mac OS. Is it the case to share a Word file created in Mac OS that
can be viewed and/or edited in Windows OS?
Thanks,
Scott
In most cases, yes, as long as the software is installed that will be able
to read/use that file type. If Word, as long as Word is installed on both
the Macs and PCs, they will be able to use the file. This is how it's done
in numerous installations running in a mixed environment. Keep in mind,
however, there are some minor issues with OS9 and some apps. If you save a
file without specifying the extension in some apps under OS9 and possibly
some under OSx, notibly Quark and some other apps, Macs will split the file
into two, the control stream and the data fork. If viewed thru a PC (even
with the right software installed), it will be useless. In this case, we had
to tell our one customer who had this problem, to go back and open each file
one by one using a Mac and save it again but this time specifying the actual
file extension name.
