Re: What is the benefit of using Workgroup ?

In news:%23zelRMaoGHA.4988@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx,
Robert <Robert@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> stated, which I commented on
below:
We are using Novell as NOS and there are a number of remote sites with
different subnet linked with high speed link. At the present moment,
the whole organization uses the same Workgroup name.

However, a consultant suggests us to use different workgroup name in
different site. For instance, in Site A, he suggests using AreaA
while in Site B uses SiteB as workgroup name.

I would like to know what is the benefit of doing so ?

Keeping your infrastructure organized, easier to identify workstations based
on location, etc. Otherwise, it wouldn't really do anything else, such as
controlling authentication or logon traffic with Novell, such as what Sites
do in Active Directory.

Instead of the website you're using, I suggest to use OEx (Outlook Express
or any other newsreader), and configure a news account, pointing to
news.microsoft.com. This is a direct link to the Microsoft Public
Newsgroups. It is FREE and requires NO ISP's Usenet account. OEx allows you
to easily find, track threads, cross-post, sort by date, poster's name,
watched threads or subject.
