You can add Windows Server 2003 DCs to a Windows 2000 domain:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/325379/en-us
When you do this the domain functional level is retained unless and until it
is manually raised:

Vista both requires and benefits from more powerful hardware:

Don't know about Longhorn Server.

We've recently been infromed by our core software provider that we willhave
to begin moving to a XP/2003 platform from our current Windows 2000palform.
They also inform us that shortly Vista will be their tetsing platform. What
my fear is that we will migrate to 2003 and then 6 months later we will beto
forced to go to the Vista platform. What I'm really looking for is some
information regrading what the hardware requiremnts for 2003 are and what
they will be for when vista os is released as well as what Longhorn server
will require. I'm trying to plan for the requiremnts for both if we have
replace hardware.at
Also is it possible to do a staged migration from 2000 to a 2003 domain.
Can I migrate the domain one site at a time or do I have to do everyy site
the same time. Basically is there some form of a mixed mode domain thatwill
support 2000 and 2003 dc as I upgrade acrooss our company
.
