Good cheap inventory programming not requiring additional stuff?

Hello,
Many many years ago I used intel landesk manager to do a quick inventory.
It didn't require any additional protocols enabled and the product was
pretty cheap. I'm looking for a cheap way of inventorying equipment type
and software for a small group - say 350 people. I don't need to push any
new software or updates or anything fancy - just a cheap inventory program
that works well.
Thanks
Any recommendations?
.
