Re: Win2003 Shares not Visible

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Have you checked to make sure that Netbios over TCP/IP is enabled in the
server's network properties? The Microsoft Windows Network shows you the
browse list. This is an NT legacy app which depends on Netbios names.

Since the shares were invisible before I installed WINS and are still
invisible, and I can see no good reason to run it, I have uninstalled
it which removes WINS from the problem list. I also do not use DHCP
nor do I have the firewall installed (using a hardware firewall).

DNS dynamic updates are enabled. I have changed the setting to be
secure and nonsecure to see if that makes any difference.

One would think that Network Places on the server for the domain
would at least show the server computer under the domain. Nada.

Thanks for the response.

Sinec you you network does not use win98 or Me or NT , truley you
dont need WINS , anyway

please check you DHCP , WINS/NBT Node Type , I think !!!!!
be sure that Domain server is configured to register in Wins servers
, enable integration between wins and DNS server .

For additional information on WINS Ratios, please see the following
White Paper available on the Microsoft anonymous ftp server:

Best Recommandation:

Use only DNS , enable dynamic updates ( if you don't have win98 , me
or NT machines)

Windows 2003 Server with all updates.

The domain controller server computer is not visible in Microsoft
Windows Network on any of the computers on the LAN. Mapping works
and I see nothing
in the event log nor anything strange in the Active Directory.

The tree on the domain controller server shows MS Windows Network
Win2003 (domain) with Team200W (windows 2000 workstation) but no
domain computer (Win2003-Server). It also shows a Workgroup with
MainXP (non-domain computer).

The tree on a domain workstation shows for MS Windows Network
Win2003 (domain) with Team200w (windows 2000 workstation) but no
domain computer (Win2003-Server). It also shows a Workgroup with
MainXP (non-domain computer).

The tree under Directory on the domain workstation shows the domain
name. The expanded directory shows the computer name under the
domain computer branch, but no shares.

The tree on a non-domain workstation shows the same thing except no
Directory list.

The server has shares which, since the server does not show, do not
show in
windows explorer.

I am not using Windows Firewall. I am using WINS.

Can anyone please point me in the direction for making the server
computer visible? I have spent a lot of effort researching this
issue without success.

Thanks.
