Your client is getting the correct DNS address, but it is probably using
the wrong DNS suffix. Does it work if you do an nslookup with the internal
FQDN instead of just the machine name?

If it does, enter the domain suffix of your LAN into the connection
properties of the VPN connection on your laptop.
