can't browse domain

a windows 2003 server in my domain has stopped being able to browse the
network.

if i click on "my network places", then "entire network" then double click
on our domain name, i get an error

---------
microsoft windows network
domain_name is not accessible. you might not have permission to use this
network resource. contact the administrator of this server to find out if you
have access permissions.

the list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available
----------

at the command prompt if i do "net view"
then:
-----------
system error 6118 has occurred.

the list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available
-----------

browstat status
----------
status for domain domain_name on transport
\Device\NetBT_Tcpip{45ED36FE-FC77-46EB-8B3A-D5F7E47911E0}
browsing is NOT active on domain. statsus: 6118
master name cannot be determined from GetAdapterStatsus
----------

it was working when i originally set it up, and it's still part of the
domain, but as it doesn't appear when i do a "net view" from another computer
in the domain then i can't setup my backup software to back it up

any help would be appreciated
regards
andrew
