Hmmm. So, if i'm reading this correctly the only problems you have are
inside your network, but it all works fine from outside connecting
straight through the VPN? Such as remote access.

Have you had the same results if you are working with the workstations
inside the network and not connecting with the VPN? You being
phycially in your office with the computers.

If you think it's the switch you should/could connect the two PC's
together with a HUB and then connect the hub into your switch. Then
you would have a direct link between the two PC's and would not have
to worry about the switch's logic between the two. Hub's are cheap,
maybe you have one laying around somewhere.
Or if you can do the test without your network being connected then
just leave out the connection to the switch. That would be better.
That would help rule some things out at least.
