Can NLB health check via specific ports?

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

All the info I can find says only that the NLB cluster will stop sending
connections to a member if it is "offline". Does "offline" just mean that it
missed x number of ICMP ping checks? I wanted to use NLB for a pair of SMTP
servers, but if NLB can't use a port 25 check to tell if the members are
online, it seems totally useless.

Thanks in advance for any info!
