DNS & IP address

Is it possible to setup DNS on a Windows 2003 server (SP1) with a 'temporary' IP address and then change the IP address at a later time. The server crashed and we had to rebuild it. While rebuiling the server, we assigned the IP address to another DNS server so we wouldn't have to change settings on a bunch of client PCs (all IPs are static, not DHCP). So I want to install DNS on the rebuilt server, then after hours remove the the server's IP from the other DNS server and assign it on the rebuild server. Will this work without causing problems?
Thanks
Tim .
