Yes, IIS registers this name by default. Back to browsing.. <g>

All Windows machines during the boot process will send a host name
announcement packet to it's local SMB every minute at startup then
at increasing intervals leveling out at every 12 minutes. The SMB
gathers the local list from all machines on its endpoint and passes
back to the DMB or domain master browser which queries WINS
for 1b entries to learn of other domains and get their browse list it
then merges and passes back to the SMB who makes this list
available to all machines who request it. Looks as if the PDC
emulator may be attempting to maintain the local list while others
are registering with another SMB. Does the problem machine
show up in its own list? Use netmon.exe to capture the outgoing
packets from the PDC emulator and see exactly where the host
name announcement packets are heading.
