Well, assuming you know how to install the O/S, I think
that the most straightforward way to achieve what you
need is the following one
* Setup an XP machine with two NICs and connect the
ADSL to one of those NICs, ensure this machine can
surf the 'net, also, be sure to enable the ICF (Internet
Connection Firewall) on the NIC (network card) which
is connected to the ADSL "modem"
* Connect the other NIC of the above machine to a
switch, setup such a NIC with an IP address of (e.g.)
10.0.0.1 and ensure that the light of the switch port to
which you connected the machine lites correctly
* Open network connections, select the ADSL icon
open its properties and enable connection sharing
this will configure the machine as a NAT (and firewall
due to ICF) and as a DHCP (i.e. other machines will
obtain network settings automatically from it)
Now, setup the client machines, start by connecting each
machine NIC to the switch, install windows and setup the
TCP/IP to "obtain an address automatically" (DHCP) once
done, after rebooting the machine it should be able to reach
the internet (and reach the other machines too)
That's (almost) all, now ... be sure to install a good AV on each
machine and to run the windowsupdate at least once a week on
each machine
Regards
