I have installed 3 different networks lately using
2003server on a 3Ghz server with 512MB and using various
net cards Intel 10/100 3com 10/100 and onboard net
cards. Properly configured DNS on all workstations and
servers. Network works ok quick logins and so forth.
But the network throughput is not good at all.

Last week I upgraded one of the networks from a nt 4.0
server 350Mhz cpu mirrored 9.1 gig SCSI drives 128mb ram
to a 3Ghz system 1-36Gb ultra320 10K scsi drive and 2-
Mirrored 73GB ultra320 SCSI drives. 512MB ram Adaptec
29320-R SCSI controler. Using Manufactures Latest drivers
server is only server so used 2003 setup defaults to
configure server with AD,DNS,DHCP, and file share only.
Setup work stations to point to server for all DNS and
set DHCP to point to router for gateway.

The Old NT server saved and retrieved word documents
slowly but within 2-3 seconds. The new 2003 server takes
3-5 seconds. I also needed to move files to different
directorys so I went to the users directory on the server
from the workstation opened win explorer and draged all
the files to the new directory. After 20 seconds the win
explorer started the process and said it would take 15
Min. I let it go for 5min and it said it would still
take 12 Min. I stopped the process, went to the server
and did the same thing the whole process to 5 seconds. I
would just say that there is too much net traffic but I
have done the same thing here in my office and with only
one workstation on connected to my old 500 mhz server
with 2000 on a IDE hard drive my accounting system was
instant but once I switched to a dual 900Mhz server with
2003 on a 4 drive raid 5 system I have lots of time I
have to wait for the accounting system to switch screens.
The workstations nor software on them changed any in
either situation.

Any Ideas Help!!!!
