Andre,
Is Netbios over TCP/IP enabled on the Windows 2003 server on the NIC
properties? You need this for pre-Windows 2000 machines to access files. I
can't find a WIndows 2003 article, but the following article for Windows
2000 outlines the problem you are seeing:

To stop the prompting for credentials, verify the XP client is a member of
the domain and is logged into the domain and not just the local machine.
