Re: win2k8 slow printing

Hello Jack,

I would try the patches now. See also this posting, entry from "Nico Buma":

I fixed the DNS setting but the printing is still slow.

We have 2 different buildings. Each building/site has its own DC/DNS
server. You are correct I will change the DNS setting when I get to
work.

Thanks,

Hello Jack,

Why do you use also the 192.168.x.x on the NIC? Another site DC/DNS
server? You should always use local site DNS server as preferred and
other site DNS servers as secondary.

Not that I am aware of. There are no group policy related messages
in the eventvwr.

Hello Jack,

Do you have other problems also with slow logon or Group policy
problems? There can also be a DNS problem, please post an unedited
ipconfig /all from the server and one client machine where the
printing is slow.

Best regards

no error messages. Just slow printing. Should I install the
hotfixes I mentioned?

Hello Jack,

did you check the server event viewer for errors? Or also the
client event viewer?

Hi,

I am trying to move from windows 2003 SP2 to Windows 2008. I
have created print queues on the windows 2008 server and when
my windows 2000 and xp clients try to print it takes 1 or 2
minutes. I did google and tried the following:

netsh int tcp set global chimney=disabled
netsh int tcp set global RSS=disabled
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
still slow. Next I tried:
uncheck the following option: Render print jobs on client
computers
uncheck Enable advanced features
still slow.
I haven't tried the following patches:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952178
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951638
The patches talk about Vista clients and I don't have any vista
clients. Should I try the patches? Are there any other ideas
on
what
the problem is? I have tried printing with and without
antivirus
and
it just takes way too long for windows 2008 to print.
Thanks,
Jack
