RE: FSMT without DFS

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi,

Thanks for posting here.

<< How can I keep the OFS in commission concurrently with the NFS after
migration if I plan to use the OFS computer name and IP on the NFS?>>

[Morgan]:

After successfully migrating the files to the new file server and ensuring
everything works fine on new server, in a non-business period, you can
demote the old file server and clean the responding record on DNS and Wins
server , then rename the new server as the old file server. Afterwards, to
ensure the clients correctly access new file server, please clean up the
DNS cache on the computers by "ipconfig /flushdns".

About how to remove the old dns cache, please see the following:

How DNS dynamic updates work together with the DNS "aging and scavenging"
process in Windows 2000 and in Windows Server 2003

I hope this helps.
