Hi,

Thanks for using this newsgroup.

The "adprep.exe is not a valid win32 application" error is known issue when
running 'adprep' from Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 Edition installation
media. Please refer to the following article:

You cannot deploy a Windows Server 2003 R2 x64 Edition-based domain
controller in a Windows Server 2003 forest

--->Hi all,
--->
--->I'm upgrading a Windows Server 2000 DC based network to Windows Server
2003
--->R2 64 bits. One of the first steps is to prepare the existing Active
--->Directory to contain W2K3 DCs. It is done by adprep /forestprep. I
--->downloaded the ISO images for W2K3 64 bits installation CDs. The first
--->problem is the adprep.exe utility does not is available at \i386 folder
of
--->the CD as the documentation says. I found it only at \AMD64 folder. But
when
--->running it I get the error "adprep.exe is not a valid win32
application". I
--->suppouse the W2K3 64 bit installation media only comes with the 64 bit
--->version of the adprep utility. It sounds consistent but this utility is
--->supposed to prepare a W2K server which is only available in 32 bits!
--->Any way, what to do? Should I download all the 32 bit version of W2K3
only
--->to run the adprep utility? Is it adprep available for download? Where?
Can I
--->run adprep.exe 64 bits from W2K3 to prepare the AD that resides on a 32
bits
--->W2K server?
--->
--->Any hint is welcomed
--->Thanks
--->Sammy
