Re: NT BDC > 2003 Migration

Hello Joe,

Thank you for your reply.

First of all, I would like to suggest that you perform a full backup for
the Windows NT BDC. Also, please ensure the Windows Server 2003 versions of
devices drivers for the servers and all of the attached devices are
available.

According to your requirement, I think you could still try the workaround
in my last post.

The difference is that there should be some more steps added into the
solution.

Please manually install a file server in the new domain (This file server
will work as a temporary file server.) and then manually migrate the files
and folders from your current file server to this temporary file server.

When user accounts migration and files folder migration are finished, you
could perform a security translation on the temporary file server in
Windows Server 2003 domain.

After that, please upgrade your current BDC file server to Windows Server
2003 file server, demote it to member server and then join it to your new
domain.

And then, please migrate files and folders again from temporary file server
to the new upgraded Windows Server 2003 file server.

The permissions on both the NTFS and sharing levels on temporary file
server will be kept on this new upgraded file server.

I hope this helps. Thanks.

Sincerely,
Neo Zhu,
