RE: FSMT and DFS setup questions

I have started copying files using FSMT. Aside from I had to manually change
the <TargetPhysicalPath> location from D:\ServerName\FolderName$ back to my
original D:\FolderName and <TargetShare> from ShareName$_ServerName$ to
ShareName$, everything else seems working fine. And, it's very simple to edit
the .xml file using notepad.
I have one more question about this tool is, how does it deal with nested
share? What I meant by this is the parent folder is shared and some
subfolders are shared again. Would all the nested share be in placed after I
finalize the project?
Thanks

Hello,.
Thank you for using newsgroup!
Here is my answer.
1. Do I have to setup a namespace in DFS?
A: Yes. A DFS namespace is a virtual view of shared folders in an
organization. When a user views the namespace, the folders appear to reside
on a single, high-capacity hard disk. Users can navigate the namespace
without needing to know the server names or shared folders hosting the data.
2. Do I have to create all the DFS links for each of the source shared
folders in DFS Consolidation Root wizard? let say I have 300 shared
folders, so I have to create 300 DFS links?(tedious job) OR, the FSMT will
automatically create the original UNC in the DFS Root server once I copy
the folders?
A: You don't need to create DFS link manually, DFS Consolidation Root
wizard will create the link.
3. The new server will also be a DC, should I promote it before the file
migration or after?
A: DFS Consolidation Root Server can't be a DC. If you set up your DFS root
server on a Windows Server 2003 domain controller, you will disable the
server consolidation logic.
4. In the FSMT white paper, it says "Prestage the target file server",
which is by restoring a backup of the source file server and then use the
FSMT wizard to recopy changed files and share the target folders. How does
it work?
A: Recommend you to read the following document:
