Can I build an NT4 BDC on that domain and use that to establish
a trust?
No.
Even better, can I upgrade in place the BDC to Win2003r2?
The PDC is the only DC on the NT 4.0 domain that holds a writeable copy of
the SAM. In order to upgrade that NT 4.0 domain to Win 2k3 you must carry
that SAM into the Win 2k3 domain by upgrading the PDC. Upgrading *any*
*other* server will create a new SAM. To your domain clients new SAM = new
domain.

I need to migrate users from SBS 4.0 to Win2003r2. Cannot establish a
trust
to use ADMT. Can I build an NT4 BDC on that domain and use that to
establish
a trust? Even better, can I upgrade in place the BDC to Win2003r2?
Thanks
