Re: Copy local groups from a Win2K server to a 2k3 one

If you were to upgrade your domain to Win 2k3, the process involves adding
the Win 2k3 server to the domain and make it a DC, the groups and users will
be replicated automatically.

Run the schema update, add the Win 2k3 server to the domain as a member
server, run dcpromo to make it a DC, this is where the user/group info is
replicated to the new Win 2k3 DC.

At this point I would suggest upgrading the existing Win 2k DC to Win 2k3
and keep two DCs on line. You can leave the existing Win 2k DC as a Win 2k
DC in a Win 2k3 domain if the server won't support Win 2k3. But you really
should have a second DC in the domain.

Hello everyone,

My company just bought a new server to replace an old one (with a
different hardware configuration).
It has been installed in Win2K3 Server (the old one is in Win2K
Server).

All data will be copied with robocopy in the 2K3 tool kit.
We also would like to copy all Local Groups from the old one to the new
one.

I found a software called SecureCopy but it isn't free... :-)
We also tried to do it with a script (migrateLG.vbs) but without
success.

Does somebody know if it exists a free solution?
If no, what do you think is the best one?

Thanks in advance
