Thanks Vincent for your assistance. The problem is now resolved. A
support
engineer from Microsoft assisted by connecting to our server remotely and
did
fair amount of cleaning up.

I will close this case now.

The current POA I have is to rebuild the server afresh. So far i have
managed
to export user information (not complete information) using ldifde.
However
this will just save me the time of creating all the users in the new
server.
There is a process involved in getting all the shares....a long
winding
process.

I have now raised a support ticket with Microsoft to resolve the
issue -
I
hope this can be resolved without rebuilding the server as that means
disturbing so many users and removing and joining them back to a new
domain -
PLEASE HELP.

Check if you have the right "Manage auditing and security logs" for
the
administrators. adprep verifies whether the user belongs to
enterprise-admin, schema-admin and local domain domain-admin groups
while
running forestprep. For domainprep it makes sure that the user
belongs

local domain domain-admin group.

Further to my message of yesterday, I was unsuccessful in
restoring
backup of
2000 into 2003 as it complains of compatability issues. I am
back to
square-one now.

Please assist.

resolve
the
original adprep issue.
