Re: Add WS 2003 R2 to a Mixed mode domain (NT 4.0)

I am going to forget what was said before and start fresh - because I
do not believe we are on the same page anymore.

We have multiple physical locations - thus the need for IP subnets.
Some of these locations just have a couple/few machines and we allow
them to authenticate with the DC at our primary location. One of these
locations has approximately 50 machines - so we put a DC there. These
are all connected via VPNs that are managed by routers.

Now - we are upgrading this NT4 domain to 2003.

The old NT4 PDC could not be upgraded - too messed up. I built a new
NT4 DC and promoted it to PDC. I used a WS 2003 EE (non-R2) cd to
upgrade it because I had not received the R2 media and eopen license
codes yet.

I shutdown my old, now demoted to BDC, nt4 domain controler. I built a
new R2 server and JOINED it to the existing domain - the only domain we
have.

When I tried to make it a DC, it would not until I ran adprep
/forestPrep on the inplace upgraded WS 2003 EE (non-R2) box - then, I
could make the R2 box a DC.

Now, the R2 and the non-R2 WS2003 boxes are on the same IP subnet. The
non-R2 box can see most of the 90 machines we have at this physical
location - same IP subnet and the 60 machines at the other physical
locations - other IP subnets. The R2 box cannot see but about 10
machines.

All servers and workstations at all locations are members of this mixed
mode domain.

Why isn't the R2 box communicating Computer Browser information with
the other servers?
