Hi Bcalley,
In my memory, when you perform an in-place upgrade from NT4 to windows
server 2003, system will ask you to input netbios domain name & dns domain
name (feel free to correct me if I'm off based). It appears that the Netbios
domain name is different from dns domain name. Normally, they didn't have
any problems related to this difference. The only problem that I¡¯ve seen
with this is potential end-user confusion. :)
However, to rename a domain, you can refer to following article:

We've recently upgraded our old NT4 domain (domA) to a 2003 domain
(domB). When you attach a workstation to either domain, at login the
user is only prompted with domA.
If you go into ADU&C and view the properities of domB the Domain name
for pre-windows 2000 shows to be domA.
Are these two things related? I'd like to have my users login to the
new domain. We've migrated all of our NT PDC's out of the picture and
as such, our Domain and Forest functional levels are both at Server
2003. (They were previously 2003 interim).
I've read about the domain rename tool and was curious if this will
allow my users to login to domB at login. From what I've read on the
domain rename tool it is a doozy to say the least. To add a fun twist
we've also got Exchange 2003 SP1 on one of our domain controllers.
Any help/suggestions are appreciated!
