RE: DNS

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

Hi Vincent

It reports that the ping request cound not find that machine, which would
indicate to me that DNS is not working. I may try to reinstall it.

Steven

Hi Vincent

When I open a command window & type ping venus the replies I get are from
ip
address 213.52.175.43 which is not from any machine on my network.

So I was wondering if my DNS was setup correctly?

At the moment on the DNS settings of the network card of the server I
have
the internal DNS server ip address 1st & then the address of the external
(my
isp) DNS servers

Cheers

Steven

Would you please describe in detail? Some ping examples would be
appreciated.

Thanks.

I have just upgraded a bdc to server 2003. I have still got 2 bdc's
on
the
network running nt4 server. Then I introduced to server 2003 servers
put
AD on
one of them and switched off the original upgraded server 2003 (it
was
very
nearly out of disk space!).

I am running wins which is currently on one of the BDC's and I have
put
that
ip address in the network setup of the server 2003 servers.

In the network setup of the server 2003 servers I list the local dns
ip
address first and my isp dns ip address second.

Why when i ping a computer name does it look on the internet first?
