Hi Vincent.

It appears to be a SBS 2003 box, right?

No, it was in the past (at server 2000 time, I think), but then we decided
to go with the stand-alone products.

If not, I think the process could
be easily. I checked the discussion thread you refered, it is detailed and
related articles provided. Such as:

Yeah, I though that those articles would really do the trick, thanks for the
confirmation. I just wanted to be sure that this was the way to do it. I'll
post a message on the other related groups (SQL and others) if I need it,
thanks. But what I'm still not 100% sure is about the order in which I
should do the migration. I'm guessing it should be:

- Install WinServer2003 SP1 on the new machine and join the domain as a
member server (already done);
- Promote it to a DC so the AD will be synchronized (will AD schema come in
the right version, or must I do something first to "install" AD on the new
machine, then install Exchange to update its schema, and only then promote
it as a DC to sync AD data?);
- Move DNS and DHCP to new machine (at this time I'll have to stop those
servers/services at the old one, right?);
- Tranfer FSMO roles;
- Demote the old server.

Is it right?

Hi,

A system :

- Windows Server 2003 SP1 (actually the language is Portuguese-Brazil, but
I'm changing it to English-US in the new box)
- Exchange Server 2003 SP2
- ISA Server 2004 SP2
- Sharepoint Services (version 6.0.2.6568, I think it's SP2)
- SQL Server 2000 SP3 (for the moment the only application that uses it is
Sharepoint)

It appears to be a SBS 2003 box, right? If not, I think the process could
be easily. I checked the discussion thread you refered, it is detailed and

Hi there.

Here's my situation: I have a small network with only one server and a
few
workstations, but the server machine is a little bit old so we bought a
new
machine to replace the old server. The actual server configuration is
like
this:

- Windows Server 2003 SP1 (actually the language is Portuguese-Brazil,
but
I'm changing it to English-US in the new box)
- Exchange Server 2003 SP2
- ISA Server 2004 SP2
- Sharepoint Services (version 6.0.2.6568, I think it's SP2)
- SQL Server 2000 SP3 (for the moment the only application that uses it
is
Sharepoint)

As the only server, it is the domain controller and also holds all the
stuff
like DNS server and DHCP server.

So, what I want to do is just move all that stuff to the new machine.
I've
already done a clean install of Windows Server 2003 SP1 on the new
machine
and joined the domain (had some problem with that but now it's solved,
thanks to MS User2006: "Error: Server 2003 joining Server 2003 Domain" <
http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.windows.server.general/bro
wse_thread/thread/a4fa3b14159ce31c/
).

I imagine that I can move easily the Exchange data with a backup/restore
procedure, the same with SQL Server, and I probably can export/import the
few policies I have in ISA Server, but what I am most concerned about is
the
transfer of Active Directory data, including Exchange stuff.

I've already read another discussions where people suggested that the
easiest way to do it is promoting the new server to a Domain Controller
(dcpromo), wait till both DCs synchronize the AD data, move FSMO roles
(??
that one I'll have to study a little bit more), and finally demote the
old
server:

Active Directory

But my question is, with that configuration, is it really all that have
to
be done? And another question is, isn't there some article that explains
those procedures easily, like a tutorial or something like that?

TIA,
Lobo.
