RE: DNS

Hi Vincent

When I open a command window & type ping venus the replies I get are from ip
address 213.52.175.43 which is not from any machine on my network.

So I was wondering if my DNS was setup correctly?

At the moment on the DNS settings of the network card of the server I have
the internal DNS server ip address 1st & then the address of the external (my
isp) DNS servers

Cheers

Would you please describe in detail? Some ping examples would be
appreciated.

Thanks.

I have just upgraded a bdc to server 2003. I have still got 2 bdc's on
the
network running nt4 server. Then I introduced to server 2003 servers put
AD on
one of them and switched off the original upgraded server 2003 (it was
very
nearly out of disk space!).

I am running wins which is currently on one of the BDC's and I have put
that
ip address in the network setup of the server 2003 servers.

In the network setup of the server 2003 servers I list the local dns ip
address first and my isp dns ip address second.

Why when i ping a computer name does it look on the internet first?
