RE: NT4.0 to 2003

Hi Vincent,

Thank you for responding! I have two existing NT4.0 machines, the PDC and
the BDC. The PDC has exchange 5.5 on it. I was going to put NT4.0 on
another machine and promote it to PDC, leaving the other two machines. I was
going to shut down the two current machines (now both BDC's) in case
something goes wrong and upgrade the one I just built. After the upgrade is
complete, I want to start up the original two servers that still have NT4.0
on them in BDC mode because I need to continue using Exchange 5.5 until I can
get Exchange 2003 installed on another server and move the mailboxes over
when I know that the other upgrade is working OK, after a couple of weeks.
My questions is, when I start up those two NT4.0 machines that are still in
BDC mode, will they log on OK?

Thank you so much!

Chad

Hi,

Several question:

1. After you promote the new NT4 to PDC, you shutdown the original PDC?

2. " I start the NT4.0 machines back up will they accept that they are no
longer domain controllers and log on OK". I don't really understand. Which
"NT4.0 machines" ?
Please describe in detail.Thanks.

Best regards,

Hi,
I need to go from NT4.0 with Exch 5.5 to Server 2003 with Exch 2003. I
have
read that the best way is to get a fresh machine, install NT4.0, make it
PDC
and do the upgrade while to current BDC's are shut off. If this is
successful, and I start the NT4.0 machines back up will they accept that
they
are no longer domain controllers and log on OK? I need to do this
because
Exchange 5.5 will still need to be run an function until I am sure the
upgrade went OK and I can start to move 5.5 mailboxes to a new server
with
Exchange 2003 on it. Also, will I do the upgrade in Mixed mode??? Thank
you
sooooo much for any help!
Chad
