RE: NT4 to 2003 Migration

Hello,

Thanks for posting!

I would like to suggest your review the following article:

278875 Dcpromo.exe and Winnt32.exe log errors when you create a Windows
Server 2003 domain controller in a Windows 2000 domain or forest or when
you upgrade a Windows 2000 domain controller that resides in a Windows 2000
forest to Windows Server 2003

Hope the information helps.

Best Regards,

Jason Tan

| I am currently trying to upgrade a small firm from NT4 to Windows Server
| 2003. Their original situation was a single NT4 PDC which was providing
| authentication for 5 member servers. So a single forest with a single
| domain.
|
| I added a BDC for redundancy and then proceeded to do an in place upgrade
of
| the PDC to Windows Server 2003. I followed the suggestions in the NT4 to
| Windows 2003 Migration guide and the upgrade seemed to be a success. The
| member servers are able to authenticate and DCDIAG.EXE comes back with no
| errors.
|
| When I go to add a second DC to the new domain I get the following error.
|
| The Active Directory Installation Wizard cannot continue because the
forest
| is not prepared for installing Windows Server 2003. Use ADPREP
command-line
| tool to prepare both the forest and the domain.
|
| "The version of the Active Directory schema of the source forest is not
| compatible with the version of Active Directory on this computer."
|
| I tried running ADPREP /forestprep on the DC but it tells me the forest
is
| already in the proper state.
|
| Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
