| Hello all,
|
| I've been reading docs & posts for 3 days now and I still have questions.
| I really wish the docs explained things better.
|
| I want to replace and retire a Windows 2000 server. It is the only AD
| server. I want the Windows 2003 server that is replacing it to have the
| same name and IP address.
|
| I just haven't seen how to do this. I didn't find how to change the name
| of the existing server so I could give the new server that name. Right
| clicking Network Neighborhood, Properties, Advanced, Network
Identification
| Shows the FQDN but the CHANGE button is greyed out. I didn't see where I
| could change the name in AD management either.
|
| If I could get the existing server renamed would these be the correct
| steps?
|
| Install Windows 2003
| 1. What would I set the IP at first?
| 2. Is it difficult to change the IP after it is the PDC?
| Install AD - joining to the existing Domain
| dcpromo on Windows 2003 server
| Transfer all 5 FSMO roles (schema, name, infr, pdc, rid) + GC
| 1. Does dcpromo do these things for me? If not, how?
| dcpromo on the Windows 2000 server to Demote it.
| 1. Does dcpromo on the Windows 2003 server do this for me?
|
| Thanks for the help.
| Daniel Blake
