Hi Jason,
Thanks you for your post.
En news:xH9YkUEMGHA.2336@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, Jason Tan (MSFT) va
escriure:
I have made some research on the issue. I cannot see Windows natively
includes the driver and this hardware does not appear to be on the
Hardware Compatibility List (HCL):
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/hcl/default.mspx. Although we are happy
to provide general suggestions and information, we recommend that you
contact the device manufacturer for assistance with this. Thank for
your understanding.
Thank for sharing your concern.
As I wrote, there already is a valid 2k/XP driver provided by the vendor
(and there is also one provider by the device manufacturer as well,
http://www.davicom.com.tw/eng/download/Driver/driver_9102.htm). The driver
is in fact the same (NDIS5), only the digital certificate varies.
And at a matter of facts, I was able to upgrade without too much of a
problem pointing Setup [Had a disk] to the correct driver... Just the
annoying interrogation nag (it was my first upgrade to NT5, as far as I
remember), and lack of automatisation.
My concern was, and still is on a more broader viewpoint, about this
NETMAP.INF which seems to be part of the upgrading toolkit; but does not
seem to be documentated broadly, to the point that manufacturers do not
provide them while Setup seems to expect it to be provided (at least, that
is what the UI looks like; perhaps it is really a UI problem, however;
Googling about this gave very much this idea, after .)
I am including some general information, as well as a link to the
hardware vendor's support portal for your convenience.
Thanks. I am not in the United States of America (sorry if I missed this),
so I went directly to the manufacter (in Taiwan:
http://www.cnet.com.tw/download/pro200wl.htm if someone is interested); and
after that I realized it was just a rebranding of Davicom chip, so I found
the above address with even more material (SCO, QNX, Etherboot, FreeBSD...)
yet nothing like the adequate NETMAP.INF :-(
Download the inf file NETMAP.INF for free<http://www.infdump.com/download-inf-files.php/inffiles/N/NETMAP.INF/downloa
d.html>Translate to ad-free http://www.infdump.com/inffiles/N/NETMAP.INF
Strange. This file looks like very much to the copyrighted one I have in the
Windows media (which I read and from which I learned to write the snippet I
tried without success). In fact, if I were to have the idea of putting
related informations on the web, I would specifically avoid to put this one
since it appears a violation of Microsoft's IP (I guess the site you
indicated has a special clearance, or is it bootleg.)
If the site is legit, it is a nice place to get informations about Windows
installations, thanks for the hint.
Antoine
