RE: Profilemigration Problem

Hello,

Thanks for posting!

USMT and Files and Settings transfer wizard both can migrate user profiles
but they do not support Windows NT 4.0. I would like to provide you with a
example below:

**Move one user profile from the Windows NT machine c:\documents and
settings to the same
location c:\documents and settings on the Windows 2k3 machine

**On theWindows NT machine backup the registry entry

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Currentversion\ProfileList

**Now on the Windows NT machine machine export the same registry key

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Currentversion\ProfileList
**and and import it on to the Windows 2k3 machine and execute it so that
the
profilelist gets loaded on to the new machine.

**if this works, you may go ahead and move the other profiles also in the
similar manner

Hope the information helps.

Best Regards,

Jason Tan

| Hi,
|
| at the moment i´m in a migration process from my old nt 4.0 domain to a
new
| windows server 2003 ad domain.
| i´ve already migrated the user accounts. now the workstations (nt 4.0 sp6,
| windows 2000 sp4) have to be integrated
| in the new domain and the userprofiles have to be migrated.
| i want to use admt 3.0. the program works fine, generally. but my problem
is
| the activated dlu (dynamic local user) from
| novell zenworks. this feature creates a local useraccount on every
| workstation. thus the user is authenticated at the local
| workstation and not in my nt 4.0 domain. also the user with the local
| userprofile from the workstation.
| admt is integrating the computer accounts in the new ad domain, but not
the
| "local userprofiles". thus all users will lost
| their profiles (eg. 900 users!!!)
| in a test szenario without dlu and login to the nt 4.0 domain, the profile
| migration works fine.
|
| is there a way to go through this problem with usmt or other tools /
| possibilitys??
|
| thx in advance
|
| manuel
