Hello,
Thanks for posting!
Q: 1.What will be the impact or expected problem if the NT PDC is not
available?
A: The NT PDC is not available means that we retire the original NT domain
after we migrate to Windows 2k3 domain. The above Windows 2k machine will
login to the new Win 2k3 domain with Kerberos. Whereas, there are some
features cannot support the down-level clients like Windows NT 4.0 client
and Windows 98.
For more detailed information, please refer to the following article:
How can I work with NT 4.0 and Win98 clients in a Windows 2000 or Windows
Server 2003 Domain?
http://www.petri.co.il/dsclient_for_win98_nt.htm
Q: 2. Do I have reregister all the workstation and servers to the new child
domain and also change all the windows services accounts?
A: If we migrate all the computer accounts and user accounts in NT domain
to the new child domain successfully, it needs not to rejoin the all the
clients and can use the original user accounts either.
Q: 3. Just say I migrated all the users and server/pc accounts from "DOM1"
to the new child domain and migrate "DOM2" later, can I have trust between
"dom1"child domain and the NT "DOM2". Because our internet "ISA SERVER"/
mail gateway is located at "DOM1".
A: yes, you may establish a trust relationship between the child domain and
the NT "DOM2".

Q: My NT "dom1" domain/netbios name is "maxis" and my first 2003 ad root
server is maxis.com.my with netbios name also "maxis". I would like to move
nt "dom1" to child.maxis.com.my will there be any problem during migration?
A: Technically speaking, the new Windows 2k3 domain/netbios name cannot be
the same as the original NT domain. You may want to create a new Windows
2k3 domain with different domain/netbios name.
Hope the information helps. If there is anything that is unclear, please
feel free to let me know.
Thanks & Regards,
Jason Tan
