RE: w2k upgrade and permissions

Hi Tim,

Thanks for posting!

Technical speaking, the upgrade may not want to cause permissions issue of
the original files system. However, due to the compatible of the software,
it could cause some potential issue as what you said. You may use the
Program Compatibility Wizard with computers that run Windows Server 2003.
The Program Compatibility Wizard prompts you to test your program in
different modes (environments) and with various settings.

For more detailed information, please refer to the following article:

| I am preparing to upgrade our w2k domain and member servers to w2k3. I
have
| a test network set up that pretty well mirrors our production network as
far
| as applications and services loaded. When I perform the upgrade most
| permissions seem to be fine, however there are a number of applications
that
| the domain admin does not have the permissions to run. As an example,
| MOM2005 will start up but will not monitor anything (including the
MOM2005
| server) and I get an error message saying that access is denied to the
client
| part of the application. (This is not the only application that I have
had
| problems with, but just an example.) When I check permissions for the
domain
| admin, everything appears to be in order.
|
| Earlier in the year, I had a production member server crash in our
existing
| win2k domain. Figured I would save myself a little work in the future,
so I
| loaded w2k3 on the member server and restored the data. Again, most of
the
| permissions to the user data was correct, but I had some issues in
certain
| directories.
|
| Is there anything that I need to be aware of concerning user and/or
| administrator permissions when upgrading to a w2k3 domain? Are there
some
| steps that I should be taking outside of running the adprep for the
forest
| and domain?
|
| Thanks in advance!!
|
| Tim
