RE: Migrating users from 2000 server to 2003

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hello,

Thanks for your update and let me know your detailed action steps.

I understand after you installed the ADMT 2.0 on the source domain and run
it, you got the error: Error code (53): The network path was not found.

>From your description, It seems that the two domains cannot be contacted
each other. For the current situation, please help me confirm the
following question:

1. Is the source domain's DC Windows 2000 Server? I assume you want to
migrate from Windows 2000 Server to Windows 2003 Server.
2. Could you ping from source domain to target domain or from target domain
to source domain by using IP address?
3. Where is your DNS server? Can you access Win2k3 Server by using
UNC:\\Win2kServer Name from source domain's computer? Or on the contrary,
can you access Win2k Server by using UNC from Win2k3 domain's computer?
4. On win2k3 server, visit win2k by DNS name, Netbios name, successful?

After confirmation, I would like give some suggestions on this issue:

1. Check trust relationship and verify it.

2. On win2k3 server, create a secondary zone to point to Win2k DNS server
and pull records from win2k DNS server.

3. Check DNS Manager on both Win2k DNS server and Win2k3 DNS server
a. Open DNS Manager.
b. Go to SERVERNAME ---> PROPERTIES ---> FORWARDERS tab. There should ONLY
be the source IP on the destination server and the destination IP on the
source server. In other words, they should only point at each other for
DNS resolution at this step of the migration.
c. Remove all other IP addresses.
d. Then re-run the ADMT tool for user accounts.

If the issue persists, please take your time and patience in answering my
above questions and help me collect the following information:

Collect Network MPS Reports on Win2k Server, Win2k3 Server and the machine
which reported the Error 53
=========================================
a. Visit
http://download.microsoft.com/download/b/b/1/bb139fcb-4aac-4fe5-a579-30b0bd9
15706/MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE. to download the file.
b. Run the MPSRPT_NETWORK.EXE
c. Wait for 10~15 minutes.
d. Open Windows explorer, navigate to
%SYSTEMROOT%\MPSReports\Network\Reports\cab\
e. Send the .cab file directly to me.

Anything update, please keep in touch!

Thanks & Regards
