RE: w2k domain prep done 4 w2k3

Jason,

Thanks for the response, I was originally going to do a inplace upgrade, but
found this sites and wanting to take some of the wisdom and experiance.

Hardware is 5 years old, company just bought new hardware and we were
thinking of building a new 2000 then dcpromo, then move all the roles to it
and then upgrade to 2003?

But seeing the posts of taking a 2003 member server and doing a dcpromo on
it to begin the upgrade, then move the FSMO roles. I would not be building a
2000 machine but instead could build the 3 new dc's as windows 2003 members
and then dcpromo and move each role I wish to each of the new machine's.
Currently we have 3 2000 dc's in the root, which we would move from each of
the old to the new machine. After the root we will begin with branches that
are aditional dc's and will also replace them since a HP pentium 200 just
won't make it( no laughing please) and we can then do the 2 child as we like
as well.to finish with raising the funtion level.

Thanks again, got to go do some reading from all those links :-)

Mike :-)
