RE: Migration w2k to w2k3 and creat a new forest

Hi France,

Thanks for posting!

It seems that you have two questions here.

The first one is upgrade my first server to w2k to w2k3 with new hardware.

The second one is to integrate 3 domains in a forest.

Please understand that our newsgroup is an issue based service, meaning we
usually respond to one question/issue per post. This will lessen the
confusion for both of us, as well as ensure that our results are accurate
and not a result of a test for a different question. Therefore, I will
work with you on the first question. Regarding the second issue, I suggest
you open a new post so that the dedicated MS engineer can help you on it in
a more efficient manner. Thanks for your understanding and support!

I would like to provide you with some information for your reference:

A: I'm going to upgrade my first server to w2k to w2k3 with new hardware.
Q: 1. Make a Windows 2k3 clean installation on the new hardware.

ADPrep /forestprep on the schema master in your Windows 2000 forest.
ADPrep /domainprep on the Infrastructure Master in each AD domain.

What do I need to do to prepare my Windows 2000 forest for the installation
of the first Windows Server 2003 DC?

2. Run Dcpromo.exe in command prompt to promote the new Windows 2k3
server to be an additional DC in the Windows 2k domain.
3. Transfer the FSMO roles to from the Windows 2k DC to Windows 2k3
additional and move the GC role to Windows 2k3.

Hope the information helps. If there is anything that is unclear, please
