RE: Concern regarding upgrading from 2k to 2k3

Hello,

Thanks for your post.

I understand you have two Win2k DCs and now want to upgrade them to Win2k3.

In order to upgrade, would we have to take one down upgrade it to 2k3 and
then bring the other one up and upgrade it separately and then have them
replicate or would there be an issue with that?

Based on my experience, you needn't take one down and upgrade the other.
However, you need to upgrade them one by one. First, you should upgrade
the PDC.

The following are the upgrade steps:

As a kind reminder, please backup the whole system before you take any
action. Also, it is best if you perform the upgrade process during a
non-business time such as the weekend. :)

I assume one of W2k DC is PDC called Win2k DC1 and the other is a DC called
Win2k DC2.

1. Run Adprep /forestprep, Adprep /domainprep on one of win2k DC1.

How to use the adprep command at the command line

erver/adprep.asp

2. Perform an in-place upgrade to Win2k3 on Win2k DC1.

3. Then in-place upgrade Win2k DC2.
